DoItYourselfThe New Year is an excellent time to make resolutions to improve your life. Even though the most common resolutions are personal, be it losing weight or getting organized, simple resolutions can also have profound impacts on your life. That's why Warner Service is encouraging you to adopt some plumbing New Years Resolutions.

Not only will these resolutions mean that your plumbing will function better, it will also mean some big long-term savings for you. A well-run and maintained plumbing system will break less frequently and be more energy and water efficient. This means monthly savings on your utility bill with less risk for expensive repair services. Here is a comprehensive list of plumbing resolutions to keep your 2015 running smoothly:

  • Know which foods can and cannot be put through the garbage disposal.
  • Use eco-friendly drain cleaners when needed (usually enzyme-based). These don’t contain the harsh chemicals that can damage the environment and your pipes, causing more problems than they fix.
  • When buying new appliances, including water heaters or a new heating system, look for the Energy Star logo. These models meet government regulations to save you energy and money.
  • If you are replacing toilets, install low-flush toilets to help control water usage.
  • Have your water heater checked. Water heaters need regular maintenance to operate quickly and efficiently. Contact a plumber to check out your heater and flush it, if needed, to make sure you don’t get caught without hot water.
  • Consider having a plumbing inspection, or even better, a plumbing service agreement. Having a plumber complete a whole home plumbing inspection makes sure everything is running correctly and there are no leaks or possible emergencies down the line.
  • Upgrade your kitchen and bathroom faucets. Not only will new faucets brighten up your room, changing to faucets that use less water can save you money on your water bill.
  • Pay attention to possible problems. Hammering noises, slow drains, water that isn’t as hot as it used to be can all signal potential problems that can end up as expensive emergency call. Walk around your home once a month and look and listen for potential plumbing issues.
Finally, this year, make your resolution to contact a plumber as soon as you notice something is wrong instead of waiting until it is too late. Plumbing issues only get worse (and more expensive) as time goes on.
