According to a July 2017 press release, the “leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and a brand of Ingersoll Rand unveiled a new brand campaign that signifies its growth and transformation over the last century.
The new campaign, titled ‘Tested to Run,’ highlights the rigorous testing methodologies and hard-working engineering teams that are as hard to stop as its products.”
Why Did Trane Refocus Their Message?
“This new [HVAC] campaign speaks to who we are as a company and is a direct reflection of our people working to create long-lasting and reliable products that are tested to the limit in our labs every day,” Brian Welborn, Trane director of brand and marketing communications at Ingersoll Rand, said.
“For more than a century, the Trane name has stood for products and technology that stretch the world’s idea of what’s possible,” Welborn continued.
“Whether that’s cooling in the heat, heating in the cold, or improving a home’s air quality, the brand continues to push the boundaries of performance and reliability to provide the most reliable performance. The campaign will help to bring this to life further and refine Trane’s position in the heating and cooling marketplace.”
What Does "Tested To Run" Mean?
Created with Young & Laramore Advertising, an independent creative agency in Indianapolis, Indiana, Tested to Run “provides consumers and residential dealers an inside and never-before-seen look at how Trane uses its labs and facilities to push the boundaries of performance and reliability when manufacturing and testing its equipment.”
The campaign launched nationally in September 2017 and included television, online video, radio, print, social media, and digital banner advertising, according to The Drum, a global media platform and the biggest marketing website in Europe.
The campaign provided an inside look at how the brand puts each HVAC unit through extreme testing prior to launch, including its Seasonal Extreme Environmental Testing lab, where products endure 16 weeks of bone-chilling cold and blistering hot weather in Trane’s Tyler, Texas, manufacturing and testing facility.
For example, Trane had a compressor called Snowball that ran from 1972 to 2000, and the nonstop technology is used in all of their HVAC units. Today, Snowball II is the nickname for the durable Climatuff® compressor at Trane’s Compressor Test Lab. It’s named for the block of ice it has encased itself in by running nonstop since 2000.
Is It Still Hard To Stop A Trane?
While Trane’s creative strategy evolved and refined “their position in the heating and cooling marketplace,” Young & Laramore used the brand’s well-known tagline, “It’s hard to stop a Trane”, and focused on reliability -- a factor that Warner Service appreciates time and time again.
