Warner Service is here to debunk any doubts about how well the Air Scrubber by Aerus can improve indoor air quality in your home by explaining the science and technology behind the device. From how it works to when it was first used, here are a few details about one of our newest products:

What is ActivePure Technology™?

The Air Scrubber by Aerus works in conjunction with ActivePure Technology™ (also known as Radiant Catalytic Ionization or RCI), which “uses specialized light waves along with a proprietary catalytic process that creates enviro-scrubbing molecules of oxygen and hydrogen which purify your air and reduce irritating particles that” exacerbate allergy symptoms.

A catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction with less energy and without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change. Catalysts can selectively break down environmental contaminants without a drastic chemical or biological transformation. Also, because they’re not consumed by the reaction, they’re recycled and continue to act repeatedly. This means that tiny amounts are needed for multiple chemical transformations.

How does it work in the Air Scrubber by Aerus?

When microscopic oxygen and water molecules are in the air, they pass through the ActivePure™ honeycomb matrix. While inside the matrix, the molecules are transformed into powerful oxidizers. When they’re released back into the air, the supercharged ActivePure™ molecules seek and rapidly destroy contaminants, fungi, mold, and odor-causing bacteria.

Fun Fact: ActivePure is based on how nature keeps things safe and clean outdoors. The natural processes found in thunderstorms, sunlight, and lightning are recreated indoors, according to Green Health Technologies. Think outside, inside.

When did this technology become available?

Astronauts need the ability to grow fruits and vegetables in space. Once this food’s grown, it’s susceptible to ethylene, which is a naturally occurring gas from plants that inhibits ripening leading to prematurely aged produce.

To prevent this, “the Wisconsin Center for Space Automation and Robotics...developed an ethylene reduction device” in the 1990s, according to NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration).

“Also known as an ethylene ‘scrubber,’ the device worked by drawing in air through tubes coated with titanium dioxide. When a built-in ultraviolet light shone onto the coat, the gas was converted into trace amounts of water and carbon dioxide, which are actually good for plants.”

The first test was in 1995 during the Space Shuttle Columbia mission STS-73. It proved successful in preserving a crop of potato seedlings and is used on flights to this day.

Fun Fact: ActivePure Technology™ was also used to clear the air in the Pentagon after the 9/11 attacks. It’s still used at The Liberty Bell and Ground Zero Museum.

Where did ActivePure Technology™ come from?

Homeowners will see that the Air Scrubber by Aerus has the Space Certification Seal because ActivePure™ is Certified Space Technology. According to the product brochure, the Air Scrubber by Aerus has guaranteed origins that came “directly from technology or resources derived from the space programs,” as explained above.

The “purification products use an ActivePure™ variation of technology originally developed in cooperation with NASA to create a safe atmosphere for astronauts on the International Space Station. This technology is now available to help protect you, your family, and your home from dust, germs, odors, pet dander, viruses, and more.”

Fun Fact: ActivePure Technology™ is proven to destroy up to 99 percent of all surface contaminants, such as staph, strep, listeria, avian-bird flu, hepatitis, and swine flu.
